Birth Date: November 23, 1975 Home Base: Bali, Indonesia
Born and raised in the lush green Balinese jungles of Indonesia, Rizal Tanjung is hands-down one of the best goofyfooted surfers in the world. His tube-riding skills are uncanny and his aerial prowess over the tropical sections of sharp coral reef surf has elevated Rizal to the top of the stack. Growing up surfing perfect world-class breaks like Pandang, Uluwatu, and Canguu has definitely allowed Rizal to adapt and rip all kinds of surf around the world, making him one of the most well-rounded surfers in recent years. Rizal loves big tubes and big airs. He was one of the first surfers from Bali to become a traveling professional and make his mark on the international surf scene.
Filming with Taylor Steele hasn't hurt his career, either, as Rizal has sick parts in "Good Times," "The Show," "Momentum II," "Campaign," and "Drive Thru Europe," among others. Taylor loves to film with the Rizza and it shows. Not only is Rizal an amazing surfer, the man can handle his biz, too. A professional businessman by nature, Rizal owns a few profitable businesses in Bali that include a surfboard company (Kurawa), a clothing line called Rizt, and he owns the rights to sell and distribute Gravis footwear to all of Indonesia. Rizal also owns a clothing and music shop called Electrohell and has recently completed a music studio to record some of Indo's upstart rock bands. On top of all that, Rizal is a bona-fide Asian media superstar—he's like the Kelly Slater of the entire continent of Asia. Japanese tourists actually stalk him like paparazzi!
When Rizal's not surfing, multi-tasking with his businesses, or dodging Japanese cameramen, he's usually found at home with his lovely wife Chandra and their young son Verun. Even with all his successes, Rizal has graciously given back to his community and opened the doors for all the future Balinese surf stars coming up under him. So good, ya!
